Sharvedda is a modern family bed and breakfast on a working croft at Strathy
Point on Sutherland’s superb North coast. In between taking care of
their guest’s, Patsy and Donald Macaskill run their forty acre croft breeding
North Cheviot sheep for wool.
Strathy point is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Hill walkers, bird-watchers and botanists will find plenty to occupy themselves
with on the point, from watching peat cutters at work, to seeing the local
Salmon Fishing Station or hunting for Britains rarest flower, the Scot’s
Primrose (Primula Scotia), found nearby.
You will be welcomed on arrival with a pot of tea or coffee and a tray of
Patsy’s delicious home-baked cakes, and will quickly relax in the Macaskills’
comfortable family home. The spacious lounge has wonderful views over
Strathy bay, the Orkney Islands and the Atlantic. So lean back in your
armchair and soak in the sun, sea and sky. Alternatively, there’s a wide
selection of books and information on the surrounding areas to help you plan the
next day’s activities, as well as a colour TV.
In the morning you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast in Patsy’s traditional
family kitchen. A wide breakfast menu offers local specialities such as
Smoked Scrabster Haddock with Poached Egg, as well as cereals, porridge and a
full Scottish breakfast - all with tea, coffee and toast. Patsy uses only
the freshest local produce and her home-mad marmalade and fruit jams.
After a day spent in the fresh air you may want to take advantage of the
optional evening meal. A hearty two or three course meal is offered,
prepared from local ingredients and served with tea or coffee and home-baking.
Patsy and Donald Macaskill want you to have a relaxing and memorable time
with them. Their genuine hospitality is reflected in Sharvedda’s three
star rating with the Scottish Tourist Board and Patsy’s Certificate of
Excellence in Bed and Breakfast operations (a Scotvec National Award).
Sharvedda offers one double and one twin bedroom (both ensuite) and a twin
bedroom with private bathroom.
